Frodsham School, a Science and Technology College [cite web |url=http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/portal/site/Internet/menuitem.7c7b38b14d870c7bb1890a01637046a0/?event=getReport&urn=111399&inspectionNumber=288951&providerCategoryID=8192&fileName=\school\111\s5_111399_20061221.xml |title=Inspection Report|accessdate=2008-06-25 |work= |date= ] , is a designated Specialist College in the town of Frodsham, Cheshire, North West England. The School however is set to close in 2009 [cite web |url=http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/PR/2006/july06/274-06.htm |title=School Organisation Committee Approves Frodsham School Closure |accessdate=2008-06-25 |work= |date= ] due to falling pupil numbers because of lower birth rates in recent years; most of the school's intake comes from the nearby Runcorn area, and there is another local high school Helsby High School.

The school is an 12-16 Co-educational Comprehensive school governed by Cheshire LEA , offering single sex and co-education with mixed age tutor groups. However the school no longer has a year seven, as the closure program meant that no admissions at age 11 were considered in 2007.

Exam results 2006/2007

In 2006, the students at the school broke school result records and improved again in 2007, with 86% of students achieving 5 GCSE's at grades A* - C. The government target of 70% was beaten, and the target set by the school for its students was exceeded by 6%.

Single sex teaching

Under the influence of the then-headteacher, Frodsham School had single-sex teaching for its lower school (years 7-9). Due to falling class sizes, this scheme was phased out, and the majority of lessons for all years are now mixed gender.

Ofsted

The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) audited the Frodsham School in the Autumn term of 2006 over 3 days. It achieved an overall rating of level 2 (or "Good") in the Ofsted scale, while earning Outstanding marks in the categories of "How well learners enjoy their education" and "The extent to which learners make a positive contribution to the community." Closure

As part of a nationwide initiative, it was announced in the 2005/2006 school year that Frodsham School was to close at the end of the 2007 school year. Further consultations set this date back to 2009. As of 2007, there has been no new intake, meaning the school no longer has a year 7 [cite web |url=http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/PR/2006/july06/274-06.htm |title=School Organisation Committee Approves Frodsham School Closure |accessdate=2008-06-25 |work= |date= ] .

Frodsham School is closing due to falling birth rates; there are no longer enough children of school age to justify two schools so close together. Helsby High School is being extended to allow Frodsham students to move across, and Frodsham will be closed by 2009. The school is not closing, as is believed locally, because of poor test results - it achieved 86% pass rate at GCSE in 2007 and Good rating in its OFSTED inspection of 2006.
