The Frederick Gent Comprehensive School is a comprehensive school on "
MansfieldRoad" (B6019) in South Normantonin the Bolsover district of Derbyshire.
It was built in 1958 to replace the secondary schools of both
Pinxton(Kirkstead, which became a junior school on "Kirkstead Road") and South Normanton(New Street Secondary Modern). It is less than 200 metres from junction 28 of the M1. The school was rebuilt in a £8.7m programme from July 2003 until December 2004.
The school provides secondary education for pupils aged 11 - 16.
Frederick Gent has a good and growing reputation as an innovative, high-achieving school with a well-ordered, caring and secure environment in which all youngsters can learn with confidence.
This was recognised by being designated as one of the first Leading Edge Schools. In the last few years the school has been transformed by moving into new buildings, becoming a Specialist school Mathematics and ICT School [ [http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/specialistschools/what_are/maths/ DFES Standards site] accessed June 2007] in April 2004 and obtaining Artsmark Gold.
Headteacher Mike Ainsley is retiring at the end of academic year 07/08 and Martyn Cooper has recently been appointed to replace him.
The school gets GCSE results modestly under the England average.
