Cheranmahadevi, (also spelt as Cheranmadevi), (Tamil: சேரன்மகாதேவி) is a panchayat town in Tirunelveli district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.

Cheranmahadevi a beautiful city located on the banks of the river Thamirabarani. Cheranmahadevi is located on the right side of the river Thamirabarani. Cheranmahadevi has numerous temples located in it by seeing this after kumbakonam (a city located in Tamilnadu known as temple city) Cheranmahadevi can be called as a temple city. And then (Canadian canal is first such canal in Thamirabarani river) now the existing one is the third such canal according to report. Cheranmahadevi was under the control of Ambai thaluk and Tirunelveli district. Cheranmahadevi is about 20km from Tirunelveli either side i.e. bus route and train route. Its present in an important junction from here three routes available from here nagaerkovil, Tirunelveli, and tenkasi etc. And then in cheranmahadevi a sub collector office is located which was under the main control of Ambai.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Cheranmadevi had a population of 16,320. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Cheranmahadevi has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 83% and female literacy of 71%. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Cheranmahadevi assembly constituency is part of Tiruchendur Lok Sabha constituency.[2]
