Taman OUG

Taman OUG or OUG is a main township in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Situated mainly atop a hill, this township is located in Jalan Klang Lama and was opened in the mid of 1970s. OUG stands for Overseas Union Garden. It is also known as Taman Overseas Union, in Malay.

Places of interest

OUG is home to the first Steven's Corner mamak restaurant (formerly known as Sri Komalah Restaurant).Every night beginning from 7pm onwards, you will see the whole area coming to life and many people, particularly teenagers, can be seen hanging out at this iconic place. Just down the hill lies Plaza OUG (also known formerly by the name of Plaza Kimisawa). It has undergone through a few ownerships and modifications, with the most recent one being Parkson Grand.One can climb the hill and have a grandiose view of the whole garden.

The residential roads here used to be in numbers (Jalan 1 to 40). However the local authorities decided to rename them to Hujan Emas (golden rain), Hujan Abu, Hujan Batu, Hujan Gerimis, Hujan Manik, Hujan Bubuk and so on.On Thursday nights, there is a night market selling various hawker food, affordable apparels, decorations, daily usage items and toys.

Recent developments

As of 2006, roads connecting OUG to Bukit Jalil and Sri Petaling have opened, after several years of having the project delayed. These new stretch of roads reduced the traveling time of at least 10-15 minutes. In the past, to get to either Sri Petaling or Bukit Jalil, one needs to pass through the neighbouring residential area Happy Garden.There are rows of shop lots in OUG. Some of the shops in OUG are Kin San Kopitiam, 7-Eleven, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardian_Pharmacies Guardian Pharmacy] , Kedai Gunting OUG, San Ho coffee shop and Kedai Runcit Wah Lian.

The surrounding area which Plaza OUG and Central Plaza are located in has seen the mushrooming of eateries and nightlife activities. Most notable is Citrus Park whereby Station 1 Cafe, Nando's, Secret Recipe, Wong Kok Char Chan Teng etc congregates in.

Food Capital

Upon arriving to the entrance of OUG the most visible landmark is the high sandstone hill which is nickednamed mt OUG .To get to OUG there no other way but to turn right after the first traffic light. Coming to the second traffic light, along the way are many truck vendors selling roast duck most prominent on weekends. Turn left at the second traffic light will bring you to the BP petrol station. Situated there are all the food stalls and shops.There are many varieties of good and tasty Chinese food to be discovered in OUG.The being most popular shop is the Kedai Kopi San ho. The taste of tea and coffee is one of the best .Among the food shops found there is the loh mee. It has an interesting style of and taste which keeps people coming back for more. San Ho is a chain of coffee shops stretching from one end of the road to the other. This due to the fact that the owner of San ho acquired 3 existing eatery shops in the early 90's and merged them together. San ho is owned by a family of 2 brothers and a sister.On the other corner is the best tasting dim sum near the Public Bank and across the road is the best beef noodle. The beef is tender and juicy.

Places of sports and leisure

The MCA hall is popular for tai chi exercise. If one is keen they can go to Kelab OUG (OUG Club) for swimming and tennis activities. There are 2 basketball courts, one of which is located just opposite the Hup Kee Restaurant. For badminton enthusiasts, SJK (C) Yoke Nam, a primary school on Jalan Hujan Emas 6 provides a 5-court capacity hall for rent from 6pm to midnight, 6 days a week, excluding Sundays. For cyber gamers, there are also numerous cybercafes scattered around OUG.

hopping Malls

The Pearl Point Shopping Mall, Central Plaza, and OUG Plaza are the shopping highlights within the radius of Taman OUG. They are strategically located at the junction between Jalan Klang Lama and the main entrance connecting to Taman OUG. Within 10 to 15 minutes drive from Taman OUG is the much popular Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens (Kuala Lumpur) shopping malls.

Major Neighbouring Districts

Two of the best-known neighbouring districts of Taman OUG are Sri Petaling and Bukit Jalil suburbs. Bukit Jalil is where the Technology Park Malaysia is located in and a lot of well-known IT companies are headquartered there. Also the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, which hosted the 1998 Commonwealth Games is also located here. What's more, Taman OUG is located at such a location that it is very convenient to travel to many of the most well-known towns within Kuala Lumpur city. It is roughly about 20 minutes casual drive away from the Golden Triangle of KL where most of the happenings takes place, as well as to either Puchong or Petaling Jaya. Also, the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shah_Alam_Expressway KESAS Highway] is linked to the exit of Taman OUG which makes it even more convenient if you wish to travel to the outskirts of KL city such as Putrajaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam from Taman OUG.
