The Montreal Urban Community (MUC) (Communauté Urbaine de Montréal — CUM) was a regional government that covered all municipalities that later merged into the megacity of Montreal.

History

It was composed of all the on-island municipalities of Montreal Island, plus their off-island appendages, and the municipality of L'Île-Bizard on Bizard Island. The supramunicipal level of government at the time of merger was changed to become the 450-zone plus 514 zone, instead of the 514-only MUC, and thus was created the Montreal Metropolitan Community (MMC). Since the merger and subsequent demerger, the MUC has been replaced by the Montreal Agglomeration Council. This left the MMC in place, so the Agglomeration Council is a supramunicipal entity between the municipal level and the regional municipal level. The MUC formed part of the Greater Montreal Area.
