Gustavo Antonio Varela Rodríguez (born 14 May, 1978) is an Uruguayan football player.

He started his career in Club Nacional de Football in Uruguay, and now plays for Schalke 04 in Germany.

He plays for Uruguay national football team and was a participant at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
