Blue Moon (fanzine)

Blue Moon (fanzine)

Blue Moon is currently the only fanzine dedicated to Peterborough United. It was originally called "Blue Moon is a Man City song for F**k sake", but the name was changed in the 2005/06 season.

History

Like many football clubs in 1980's Peterborough's United fans turned to the printed media in order to express their feelings at how their club and football in general was being run. The result was The Peterborough Effect (TPE), the name was taken from the slogan of the Peterborough Development Corporation [cite book | title = The Peterborough effect | author = Terence Bendixson | id = 0902871056] . The TPE continued through out the 1990s and was last published in the 2000-2001 season. For a bried period the Posh had no fanzine until the launch of Blue Moon is a Man City Song for f**k sake in the 2003-04 season. The name is taken from the popular song Blue Moon which is traditionally played at the end of Posh home matches. The song is also sung by Manchester City fans and thus not considered to be a Peterborough song. During the 2005/2006 season the ownership, and the main writing team, changed to The PLC.

Style

Like many football fanzines Blue Moon is characterised by cynical, sarcastic and occasionally insightful journalism though there is also an emphasis on visual jokes. Long running jokes include The Diary of Jamie Day aged 19 and 1 months a pastiche of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾, Bake a cake with Andy Clarke, a former Posh player who blamed a failed drug test on a cake bought by a friend in Amsterdam. The popularity of the Jamie Day Diary has led to the Blue Moon sponsoring him next season. Each issue sells about 400 copies and has been called "witty" by the local newpspaper [cite news | title= Peterborough Evening Telegraph | date =2006-04-28]
