Grimmen (IPA2|ˈgʁɪmən) is the capital of the district of Nordvorpommern in the Bundesland Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The city possesses a delightful old part of town, the environment is one point of attraction for the tourism.

Geography

The city Grimmen is in the southeast part of the district Nordvorpommern and is because of the river Trebel. Grimmen is scarcely 30 km south of the Hanseatic city Stralsund and 30 km to the west of the Hanseatic city grab forest far away. Furthermore at the city run the railroad line Stralsund Demmin Neubrandenburg Neustrelitz, B 194 and A 20. The area of the district town is limited in the west by the office Franzburg Richtenberg, in the north by the office Miltzow and in the south and the east by the municipality Süderholz.

History

The first referring to slawische (wendische) settlements within the range of the city Grimmen can be dated on the year 1220. Probably after 1250 zugewanderte tradespeople and craftsman from Lower Saxony, Westphalia and of the Niederrhein created the place Grimmen. The first documentary mention Grimmens gave it in the year 1267. As Gründungsdatum however today the settlement Vogt of the s Berthold is considered to the city. This came as a representative of the national princes in the year 1287 into the area of the today's city Grimmen. This proves that Grimmen at this time already Lübi municipal law held. The actual charter is however no longer present today. Accordingly 1987 the 700-jährige existence of the city Grimmen were celebrated. During 30-jährigen of war the city was geplündert several times and belonged in the following time to the Kingdom of Sweden. In the years 1695 to 1697 Johannes Flittner cruel witch pursuit EN took place under the mayor at that time. At least 7 alleged witches were executed. Incorporations

On 23 June the Mayor of Stoltenhagen, Jutta broad speaker has 2003, and the mayor of Grimmen, Benno Rüter, after approximately one year's negotiations of members of both agency bodies the Place-changing-contract for the connection of the municipality Stoltenhagen to the city Grimmen signs. The request for permission of the fusion was placed on 19 June 2003 and approved on 29 December 2003. Since 01 January 2004 the city Grimmen thereby has further five local parts. (AmtsBl. Buildings

Oldest building of the city is the pc. Marienkirche, which was already built in the year 1267. To the most important objects of interest further the out earlygothical time coming 3 brick gates belong to the city. These are:
* the mill gate (probably builds around 1320)
* the Stralsunder gate (probably builds around 1320)
* Greifswalder gate (probably builds between 1350 and 1400).
* the High School Grimmen (it has unfortunately still no name) was built 1993 and is to today the first and only Grimmens, it is the third most modern High School of Germany.Further objects of interest are around 1400 the city hall built in the gothical style as well as the 1933 established water tower of the city.

Park

Grimmen possesses a Zoo, in which over 250 animals from 50 different kinds can be visited. The park was opened 1957 and is characterized by the large variety in plants and green areas.

*The theologian and translator of Scandinavian literature God-dear Christian Friedrich Mohnike were born 1781 in Grimmen.
