The force is also responsible for policing on Ascension Island. The service has approximately 30 officers, with a detachment on Ascension. In addition to its policing duties, the force also has responsibility for the island's prison, immigration services and fire/sea rescue. Saint Helena has a main police station/prison in the capital Jamestown and four small police posts in rural areas, while there is a single police station and prison on Ascension in the capital Georgetown.
