Clutorius Priscus

Clutorius Priscus

Clutorius Priscus (c. 20 BC – 21 AD) was a Roman poet.

Priscus was paid by the Roman Emperor Tiberius for producing a panegyric for the death of Germanicus (19 AD). During the final illness of the emperor's son, Julius Caesar Drusus, Priscus began preparing another, hoping to gain financially. Boasting of his efforts in this regard, he was denounced and condemned by the consul elect, Decimus Haterius Agrippa. He was imprisoned and executed, a victim of his own folly.
