OC Transpo routes

OC Transpo is a public transit authority that operates about 139 bus routes (Sept. 2011) in the Ottawa-Gatineau region of Canada. It also operates the O-Train.

Overview

Route Colours

Black: These routes generally operate 7 days/week from about 6:00 AM-midnight Monday-Saturday, and from about 7:00 AM–11:00 PM on Sundays & most holidays. There are some exceptions, however. If a route, or a section of a route, doesn't operate during certain time periods, it will be in stripes on the bus stop flag, and gray on here. A route in orange on here means that it only operates during certain times, such as evenings or weekends only. Some routes provide early morning service as early as 4:00 AM on weekdays, and 5:00 AM on Saturdays. Ottawa's three major Transitway routes (routes 95, 96, and 97) also provide early morning service on Sundays. Route 95 operates 24 hours a day seven days a week, whereas route 97 operates 24 hours a day Mondays through Fridays. The fare on regular black routes is currently $3.25, or 2 bus tickets.

Red: These routes generally operate Monday through Friday from around 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM, and from around 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. They usually operate in one direction in the morning, and the opposite direction in the afternoon. The fare on the red routes is currently $3.25, or 2 bus tickets.

Green: These routes generally operate Monday through Friday from around 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM, and from around 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All green routes travel towards downtown Ottawa in the AM, and towards the suburbs in the PM. Most green routes travel to suburban areas, but some of them also travel to rural areas. Rural express routes are noted on bus stop flags with an R after the bus route number. The fare on the green routes is currently $4.25, or 3 tickets, for routes that travel to suburban areas, and $5.25, or 4 tickets, for routes that travel to rural areas.

Blue: Blue is the color used to signify early morning service, (for example, route 97 does not travel along the Airport Parkway in the early morning). Before December 19, 2010, there were blue early morning only routes (route 891 was the last route providing this service). These routes formerly operated 5 days/week from about 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM. in one direction only. Routes 824, 825, and 830 also provided Saturday service from about 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM.

Route Numbers

OC Transpo classes its routes according to the following numerical groups:

1-19: These are mainline or local routes that operate to, from or through downtown along major roads or in urban communities.

20-79: These are peak period routes connecting downtown Ottawa to suburban areas, running towards downtown in the morning and to the suburbs in the afternoon. The 20s and 30s serve Ottawa East and Orléans, and require express fare (except route 24, which is regular fare). The 40s serve Ottawa South and require regular fare. The 50s used to serve Nepean at regular fare, but all have been replaced by extra service on other routes. The 60s serve Kanata and Bells Corners, requiring express fare (route 67 is an exception to this as it is a regular-fare route serving Arlington Woods). And the 70s are express routes serving Barrhaven.

80-89: Similar to routes 1-19, these are mainline routes that operate through downtown along major roads, spending more time on the Transitway. Routes 85, 86, and 87 are the three remaining routes providing such service. Peak routes 82 and 88 have been replaced.

90-99: These are rapid transit routes that go downtown, spending most of the time on the Transitway/Highway 417/Regional Road 174. Routes 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98 and 99 are currently the routes offering such service.

100-109: For the most part, these routes are peak-only routes (except routes 101 and 106) that provide service between a Transitway station and major employment areas. In the future, OC Transpo will be expanding their rapid transit service to have routes numbered from 100-109, which would bypass downtown. Routes 101, 102, and 106 are the first three routes to provide this service.

110-119: These are regular routes that travel cross-town, but bypass downtown.

120-199: These are mostly local routes that usually connect residential areas or business areas to Transitway stations. A few, such as routes 176 and 182, are cross-town routes. Some regular local routes continue to/from downtown during peak periods as an alternative to express service. This number range also includes a number of special rush hour routes that run in rush hour to connect major suburban and rural employment areas to the Transitway.

200-299: These are rural express routes serving areas beyond the 'Urban Transit Area'. Starting March 1, 2010, routes 261, 262, and 263 (serving Stittsville) are express routes rather than rural express.

300-399: These were special community routes. They were all cancelled effective September 4, 2011. Routes 306, 316 and 356 formerly existed.

401-406: These routes provide special service to/from Scotiabank Place for Ottawa Senators games and concerts, among other events.

500-599: These are rural service routes operated by partner bus lines (not OC Transpo).

600-699: These routes are special school routes. These routes are usually not shown on the bus stop flag except at Transitway stations, mall terminals, and on streets where no other bus service is available.

740: Route 740 is the O-Train replacement bus service if only one or no trains are available. The replacement buses only stop at the locations where the O-Train would usually stop.

800-899: These routes provided early morning service (before 6 AM) Mondays through Fridays (and some on Saturdays too). They were not shown as a number on the bus stop flag, but rather by a sun indicating the presence of early morning service at the stop. As of December 19, 2010, all early morning routes have been replaced by extra early morning trips on existing routes.

900-999: These are employee shuttles for OC Transpo employees only at times and places with no service (mostly overnight).

OC Transpo has recently created a business plan which calls for a lot of their routes to be combined together to reduce OC Transpo's operating costs. The plan calls for a complete overhaul of the route network city-wide. Most well used routes, such as rapid transit and express routes, will remain largely unchanged. The majority of changes comes from local and peak period service, which either serve areas already served by other routes, or ridership on such routes does not meet certain requirements. OC Transpo is also planning to overhaul the buses used on certain routes and replacing older, low-capacity models with new, higher-capacity, more fuel-efficient buses, until the new light rail line can be fully implemented.^[1]

OC Transpo has since provided a list of routes which were combined with other routes, or dropped due to low ridership. The list of route changes was posted on OC Transpo's website. The posted changes were implemented effective September 4, 2011.^[2]

Black Routes (Regular Fare)

These routes usually run from around 6 AM to midnight seven days a week. There are some exceptions to watch out for, however.

	98	Hawthorne	Greenboro Station Tunney's Pasture Station	This rapid-transit route replaces route 84, and provides residents living in the Greenboro area with a new direct connection to/from Tunney's Pasture Station during most time periods. Some trips, however, are shortened to start/end at Greenboro Station. Most PM peak period trips starting at Hawthorne become route 97 at Greenboro Station and continue downtown.
	99	Greenboro Station LeBreton Station	Riverview Station	This rapid transit route connects Riverside South and Greenboro Station (via Leitrim, Albion, Lester and the Airport Parkway) all day, with extensions to downtown during peak periods, which start/end at LeBreton Station. Route 99 also provides extensions of rural express route 245 (serving Manotick) and peak route 189 (serving River and Hunt Club) to/from downtown. Service to the new Leitrim Station has been added, but is only served on request.
	101	St-Laurent Station	Bayshore Station	This route is supplemented with route 102 between St. Laurent Station and the corner of Carling/Holland during peak periods. Service East of St. Laurent Station has been cancelled due to low ridership. Route 101 does not operate on Sundays. Service to Kanata North is provided by new route 93.
	106	Elmvale Alta Vista	Hurdman Station	This rapid-transit route replaces route 85 East of Hurdman Station via the existing routing. Buses travel via the South-East Transitway and Smyth Road to/from Elmvale Shopping Centre. Some peak trips start/end at the Ottawa Health Sciences Complex. Revised to serve the Ottawa Health Sciences Complex during peak periods only.
	111	Carleton University Billings Bridge Station	Baseline Station	Service East of Billings Bridge Station has been replaced by routes 112, 114, and 121. Selected AM peak trips start at the corner of Merivale/Viewmount. Replaces route 117 to/from Carleton University via Billings Bridge Station on weekdays only.
	112	Elmvale	Billings Bridge Station	Replaces route 111 East of Billings Bridge Station via the existing route. Travels via Bank, Heron, Baycrest, Walkley, and Russell.
	114	Hurdman Station	Greenboro Station Elmvale Ottawa South	This route replaces route C84 with the exception that it travels via Karsh instead of Blohm in the community of Greenboro. Most peak period trips operate between Hurdman Station and the corner of St-Laurent/Conroy in the Ottawa South Business Park. Outside of peak periods, most trips operate between Hurdman Station and Elmvale Shopping Centre only. This route is now the only regular route that provides service along St-Laurent between Elmvale S.C. and the Transitway.
	116	Greenboro Station Hurdman Station	Merivale	Most AM peak trips start at Hurdman Station and most PM peak trips end at Hurdman Station. Shortened to start/end at Merivale Mall. Service West of Merivale is provided by route 111.
	118	Hurdman Station	Kanata Bells Corners Baseline Station	Travels via Hazeldean, Robertson, Richmond, Baseline, and Heron, also making a small detour to serve Baseline Station and Algonquin College's Woodroffe Campus. Selected peak trips are shortened to start/end at Baseline Station. Selected peak trips are shortened to start/end at the corner of Moodie/Robertson and travel via Moodie and Richmond instead of Robertson.
	120	Portobello	Place d'Orléans Station	Travels along Princess Louise, Portobello and Varennes within Orléans.
	121	Blair Station	Hurdman Station	Provides a connection to the new Ottawa Trainyards Shopping District, just off of Terminal in the city's East end. Replaces route 125 on Innes, Star Top, and Cyrville.
	122	Millennium Station	Place d'Orléans Station	Serves residential areas along Trim in Orléans.
	124	Beacon Hill	Hurdman Station Blair Station	Weekend service is shortened to start/end at Blair Station. AM downtown service was removed from this route in 2009.
	126	Pineview	Hurdman Station Blair Station	Selected peak and all weekend trips are shortened to start/end at Blair Station.
	127	Blair Station	St-Laurent Station	Revised to serve the Ogilvie area between St-Laurent Station and Blair Station. Service East of Blair Station has been dropped.
	128	Blackburn Hamlet	Hurdman Station Blair Station	Became a two-way route (instead of a two-way loop) that travels to Blackburn Hamlet removing service along Blair Road. Weekend service is shortened to start/end at Blair Station. Travels via Regional Road 174 instead of Ogilvie. There is no service on local streets on Sundays except on Tauvette.
	129	Carson's Aviation Special	Hurdman Station Blair Station	Weekend service is shortened to start/end at Blair Station. Selected peak trips don't travel via Charlton. These trips stay on Bathgate and are signed 129X SPECIAL. Service to/from the Aviation Museum is provided during selected time periods only.
	130	Millennium Station	Blair Station	Revised to travel within Orléans, South of Innes, via Jeanne d'Arc, Tenth Line, and Brian Coburn.
	131	Convent Glen Place d'Orléans Station	Chapel Hill Place d'Orléans Station	Two-way loop route that travels through Convent Glen and Chapel Hill within Orléans.
	132	Place d'Orléans Station	Sunview	New route serving the Sunview area. Operates during peak periods only with selected evening trips.
	134	Place d'Orléans Station	Renaud	New route serving the Renaud area in Southern Orléans, via Longleaf, Orléans and Renaud. Temporarily routed via Joshua and Felicity. Future routing will be along Joshua instead of Felicity.
	135	Esprit	Place d'Orléans Station	Travels via the community of Fallingbrook as well as western portions of Avalon along Esprit and Lakeridge.
	137	Queenswood Heights	Place d'Orléans Station	One-way loop route that travels through Queenswood Heights within Orléans.
	143	Conroy	Greenboro Station	No weekend evening service on this route.
	144	Leitrim Station	Greenboro Station	Serves Blossom Park in South Keys. Replaces route 142 in Blossom Park and extended to/from Leitrim Station via Albion and Findlay Creek. Selected Sunday trips are extended via Bank to/from the Hindu Temple. Selected AM peak trips start at the corner of Bridle Park/Albion and end at Greenboro Station. Selected PM peak trips are shortened to end at the corner of Queensdale/Conroy.
	146	Greenboro Station	Hurdman Station Billings Bridge Station	Weekend service starts/ends at Billings Bridge Station. Weekday service starts/ends at Hurdman Station.
	147	Gloucester South / Greenboro Staton		Does a one-way loop through CFS Uplands. No weekend evening service is provided on this route. Peak service has been reduced to every 30 minutes (as opposed to every 15 minutes) as of December 20, 2010.
	148	Elmvale	Hurdman Station Billings Bridge Station	Weekend service starts/ends at Billings Bridge Station. Weekday service starts/ends at Hurdman Station.
	149	Elmvale	Hurdman Station	Revised to operate during peak periods only, with a couple of weekday midday trips and one late evening weekday trip.
	150	Tunney's Pasture Station	Lincoln Fields Station	Revised to replace route 151 West of Clyde and provide service outside of peak periods.
	151	Tunney's Pasture Station Westboro Station	Clyde	Shortened to loop around Merivale, Clyde, and Baseline. Service to Westgate S.C. is provided during selected time periods only.
	152	Lincoln Fields Station	Moodie Bayshore Station	Serves the Iris area. Extended to serve Ericsson on Moodie. Selected AM peak trips end at Bayshore Station and continue downtown as route 96.
	156	Baseline Station	Merivale	Serves the Woodfield area. Selected AM peak trips continue downtown as route 95 from Baseline Station. Selected peak trips are shortened to start/end at the corner of Merivale/Woodfield.
	159	Tunney's Pasture Station / Local		Replaces route 82 North of Tunney's Pasture Station and operates seven days a week. Does a one-way loop around the Tunney's Pasture Government Complex via Yarrow, Tunney's Pasture, Eglantine, Frederick Banting, Colombine, Parkdale, and Scott.
	161	Bridlewood Hazeldean Special**	Terry Fox Station Special**	Serves Katimavik-Hazeldean, Hazeldean Mall, Glen Cairn, and a portion of Bridlewood. Service is provided in peak periods only, with selected weekday midday trips. Late evening and weekend service in Glen Cairn is provided by route 164. A single evening trip operates Southbound from Terry Fox Station to Hazeldean Mall. **Special trips are provided for students attending Holy Trinity and Earl of March high schools.
	164	Bridlewood Hope Side Rd Special**	Terry Fox Station	Serves Campeau, Teron Station, Eagleson Station, Hazeldean Mall, and a portion of Bridlewood. **Provides supplementary trips to/from the corner of Hope Side/Crownridge during peak periods only, replacing route 184. Routed through Glen Cairn during evenings and weekends, replacing route 161.
	168	Beaverbrook**	Katimavik	Revised to be a loop route, serving Katimavik-Hazeldean, Beaverbrook, and Marchwood within Kanata. Buses serve Eagleson Station, Teron Station, Terry Fox Station, and the Kanata Town Centre on Katimavik. **Service is provided on weekdays only, and supplements the Katimavik service, but in the opposite direction.
	170	Fallowfield Station	Barrhaven Centre Station	Travels through the Walter Baker neighborhood within Barrhaven . Service on Flanders has been replaced by service on Cedarview, and service on Wessex, Exeter, and Jockvale has been replaced by Transitway service. Service East of the Transitway is provided by route 171. During evenings and weekends, route 170 serves parts of Barrhaven that are served by route 173 during weekday midday and peak. Selected peak trips travel to/from Agriculture Canada, located just North of Fallowfield, via Fallowfield.
	171	Fallowfield Station	Barrhaven Centre Station	Travels through the Longfields neighborhood within Barrhaven. Modified to replace parts of route 170 in Barrhaven East of the Transitway and North of Strandherd. Selected AM peak trips start at the corner of Woodroffe/Stoneway and end at Fallowfield Station. Route 171 does not operate on weekends. Weekday evening trips operate Southbound only.
	172	Lincoln Fields Station Baseline Station**	Bayshore Station Craig Henry***	Serves the Craig Henry area. Replaces route 174 in Arlington Woods. **Selected AM peak trips end at Baseline Station and continue downtown as route 95. ***Selected PM peak trips end at the corner of Craig Henry/Greenbank.

	178	Lincoln Fields Station Baseline Station**	Centrepointe	**Selected AM peak trips end at Baseline Station and continue downtown as route 95. No weekend service is provided on this route.
	198[4]	St-Laurent	Cyrville	New temporary route serving Cyrville while construction crews work on the Cyrville bridge over Highway 417. Effective for around 10 months, starting March 28th, 2011, and is provided free of charge by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. Operates weekdays between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM.

Red Routes (Peak Periods / Regular Fare)

These routes run Monday-Friday from 6 AM – 9 AM and from 3 PM – 6 PM, and require the regular fare.
They usually travel on one direction in the AM, and in the opposite direction during the PM.^[3]
Some of these routes are proposed by OC Transpo to either have service cut or be combined with other routes.^[5]

	105	Gatineau	Tunney's Pasture Station LeBreton Station	Extra service has been provided between LeBreton Station and Gatineau to replace route 180. Is a loop route that goes the farthest into Gatineau of any OC Transpo route. From late 2008 to September 2009, due to weight restrictions on the Chaudière Bridge, it temporarily became an all-week and all-day route between LeBreton Station and Terrasses de la Chaudière via the Portage Bridge. Reduced PM service on route 105 due to extra trips from Gatineau on routes 95 and 96.
	123	Gloucester North / Blair Station		Buses serve Beacon Hill and Rothwell Heights. This route also has a couple of midday trips.
	136	Tenth Line	Place d'Orléans Station	Serves the Tenth Line corridor. Revised to operate during peak periods only.
	140	McCarthy	Hurdman Station	Revised to operate during peak periods only. Service to/from South Keys Station is provided by route 87.
	157	Baseline Station	Amberwood	Buses travel via Woodroffe to/from the Amberwood area. Replaces route 176 on MacFarlane, Deakin, Prince of Wales, and Amberwood.
	163	Kanata	Stittsville	Provides the neighbourhoods of Kanata West and Western Stittsville with a connection to Terry Fox Station during peak periods. Extended along West Ridge to/from the corner of West Ridge/Stittsville Main. Service to/from Eagleson Station via Campeau and Teron Station is provided by route 164.
	169	March-Legget	Eagleson Station	Serves the Kanata North Business Park. Travels via Eagleson, Campeau, Teron, March, Solandt, Legget, and Herzberg. Also serves Teron Station and the Hewlett-Packard building on Solandt.
	174	Baseline Station	Greenbank	Shortened to start/end near the corner of Greenbank/West Hunt Club, and operates during peak only. Service to/from Carlingwood S.C. via Woodroffe is provided by route 87.
	180	Bayshore Station	Haanel	Replaces route 179 to/from EMR Canmet in Bells Corners. Travels via Highway 417, Moodie, Timm, and Haanel.
	182	Ericsson Kanata North**	Lincoln Fields Station	Route 182 travels via the Transitway (including Bayshore Station and Pinecrest Station), Highway 417, and Moodie to/from Carling Place. **Selected trips are extended via Carling to/from Kanata North Business Park.
	183	Scotiabank Place	Terry Fox Station	Travels via Lord Byng, Kanata, Castlefrank, Katimavik, and Palladium to serve businesses along Palladium.
	186	Manotick Rideau***	Barrhaven Centre Station Carlingwood***	This route generally serves Manotick and Barrhaven. ***One round trip every Friday travels to Carlingwood Shopping Centre in the AM and to Rideau during the PM.
	189	Riverview Station**	Greenboro Station Honey Gables	Travels towards Riverview Station in the AM and to Greenboro Station in the PM via Hunt Club and River. Some PM trips end at the corner of River/Leitrim and are signed 189 HONEY GABLES. **All trips are extensions of route 99 to/from downtown.
	192	Hawthorne	Hurdman Station	Serves the Cyrville and Sheffield Industrial Parks. Replaces route 191 on Walkley, Hawthorne, Ages, Swansea, Stevenage, Belgreen and Russell.
	194	Gloucester North	Blair Station	Travels to/from the Canotek Business Park via Regional Road 174.
	199	Barrhaven	Place d'Orléans Station	Travels along the Southeast Transitway and Hunt Club to/from the RCMP headquarters in Barrhaven.

Green Routes (Peak Periods / Extra Fare)

These routes operate during peak periods only, and require an extra fare. Routes 221, 231, 232, 245, and 283 are rural express; all others are urban express routes.

Effective Monday, April 18, 2011, rules regarding express routes have changed. Routes 20-39 (serving Orléans and Ottawa East) and routes 221, 231, and 232 (serving rural areas East of Orléans) do not pick up passengers between Blair Station and Train Station. Routes 60-66, 68, and 69 (serving Kanata and Bells Corners), routes 261-263 (serving Stittsville), and route 283 (serving Richmond and Munster Hamlet) do not pick up passengers between Queensway Station and Westboro Station. Routes 70-77 (serving Barrhaven) do not pick up passengers between Baseline Station and Westboro Station. Passengers who normally use express routes in these areas now have to use non-express service. Express routes will continue to allow passenger boarding once downtown. Barrhaven express routes also no longer pick up passengers along Woodroffe between Fallowfield Station and Baseline Station. The changes are meant to improve speed of service from the suburbs to downtown, and are only effective for AM trips.^[6][3]

The O-Train operates from 6:30 AM - midnight Monday - Saturday and from 7:30 AM - 11 PM on Sundays.
There is no service on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.^[3]

These routes ran before 6 AM on Monday through Friday only. As of December 19, 2010, all 800-series routes have been replaced by early morning service on other nearby routes. Route 891 was the last route of this type to operate.
