ArabDIN|K-F-R " _ar. ك ف ر", Hebrew כ פ ר is the triconsonantal root of many Arabic and Hebrew words, and many of those words are used as names.

*Kufr (Arabic), Kefirah (Hebrew) — negation of the faith; disbelief
*Kafir, pl. "Kuffar" (Arabic), Kofer, pl. Kofrim (Hebrew) — "coverer" — unbeliever; "a person who hides or covers the truth"
*Takfir (Arabic) — excommunication
**Mukaffir — the act which precipitates takfir
*Kafare (Arabic) — sentence for a crime, for example lashes for adultery, used in religious issues
*Kaparah (Hebrew) — atonement for a transgression, or compensation through monetary or spiritual means. See Kaparot
**Yom Kippur (Hebrew) — the day of atonement

*Kafara — "to cover" — as a pre-Islamic term it described farmers burying seeds in the ground, covering them with soil while planting.
