"The Package" was a
1989 Orion Pictures film directed by Andrew Davis. Set during theCold War , this political thriller portrays anassassination conspiracy within both the U.S. and Soviet militaries. The Americans and Soviets are about to sign a disarmament treaty to completely eliminatenuclear weapon s, but elements within each country's military are vehemently opposed to such a plan and determined to stop it at all costs.Gene Hackman stars as Johnny Gallagher, asergeant in the U.S. Army who discovers the plot and sets out to stop it. He is joined by his ex-wife Eileen, a Lt. Colonel in the army, played byJoanna Cassidy , and Chicago police officer Milan Delich, played byDennis Franz .
