Christopher Maslon

Christopher Maslon (born 1972) is an American painter. He was born in Massachusetts, where he spent most of his life. His childhood interest in plants and drawing led him toward a career in botanical art. As a student in Ohio's Columbus College of Art and Design, he was influenced by many artists including Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein. He has met many other influential artists including William Wegman and Robert Rauschenberg.

Maslon's art is inclined toward realistic imagery, he learned printing based on the principles of Germany's Bauhaus style. Maslon received his bachelor of fine arts degree in 1996.

After his undergraduate work Maslon traveled and worked a variety of jobs amassing the experiences that continues to shape his artistic style. He was exposed to pop art philosophy and began to incorporate elements of this style, using bold colors and glitter to add life to his works. Maslon is one of only 12 men ever inducted into the American Society of Botanical Artists, New York, NY.

Maslon traveled to South Korea in 1999. His experiences and Asian influences of endangered plants had created a strong desire to document vanishing species. He exhibited his worksin the United States, and South Korea. Masłon has traveled to 28 countries, seeking plants and new endangered species for illustrations.

Maslon currently lives in South Korea with his wife Kweon Su Nae. Maslon is the first American professor ever to teach at Daejeon Health and Science College, Daejeon, South Korea.
