Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood

Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood

Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood are professional playwrights, having begun writing together in January 2002. They are based on Tyneside in England and have premiered the majority of their seven professionally produced plays at the 400-seat Customs House in South Shields [http://www.doollee.com] .

Their first play Good to Firm, billed as 'the funniest comedy about horse-racing' pulled in the punters and started a string of commercial hits which brought them to the attention of commercial producers across the UK. [“Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood are rapidly establishing themselves as one of the most commercially marketable brands in British Theatre” – (The Metro, January 11, 2005)]

Their biggest hit to date "Dirty Dusting" (2003), is a comedy about three elderly cleaning ladies who set up a telephone sex line. After its premiere at the Customs House it transferred to Newcastle’s 1200-seat Theatre Royal for two sell-out runs before moving to The Kings Theatre, Glasgow, in 2005 where it attracted 18,000 people over two runs. In spring 2006 22,000 people attended the show, starring Adele “Twink” King, at the prestigious Gaiety Theatre in Dublin as part of an Irish tour. It has subsequently played all over the UK and in New Zealand [http://www.fortunetheatre.co.nz/productions/past/about/dirty-dusting-by-trevor-wood-ed-waugh] .An Australian tour is scheduled for 2009. Their other touring success Waiting For Gateaux (2005) premiered at the Customs House in April 2005 where all 2,000 tickets were sold ten weeks before the first curtain up. It then premiered in New Zealand at The Fortune Theatre, Dunedin, in June 2006, where it played for three weeks before embarking on a week’s tour of the south island [http://www.fortunetheatre.co.nz/productions/past/about/waiting-for-gateaux] .

Their latest play "Maggie's End" (2007), marked a big departure from their previous work and caused some controversy in the North East. Whilst still comedic in tone the play begins with the death of Margaret Thatcher and explores the repurcussions on one family of the Labour government giving her a state funeral.

They are currently developing a sitcom 'Silver Acres' with Aficionado Films and the BBC
