homepage = [http://stjohns-hamilton.school.nz/ stjohns-hamilton.school.nz]St. John's College is a state integrated Catholic boys'
secondary school in Hamilton,New Zealand . The school was established by the Marist Order in1961 from Marist School (nowMarian Catholic School ). The school crest features the eagle of St. John the Apostle, with the motto "caritas christi urget nos" strewn across the bottom, translating loosely into "Christ's love urges us on". The mission statement for the school is "preparing young men for life".The school colours are navy blue, white and gold. Third formers (year nine) through to sixth formers (year 12) wear navy blue polo shirts, navy blue jerseys and light grey shorts through terms 1-4, changing into dark grey trousers/dark grey shorts with grey socks during terms 2-3. Seventh formers (year 13) wear the blue polo shirt with tan shorts during term 1, then in term 2 onwards change into black pants, with a seventh form elected long sleeved(except pink), buttoned collared shirt (along with the blue college tie). Students when travelling on official school occasions wear dark blue blazers with the school crest on the breast with a white shirt and the blue college tie.
St. John's has a strong relationship with its sister Catholic school, Sacred Heart Girls' College, with whom it holds a yearly ball and bi-annual musical production, along with numerous other activities.
It offers an education based on Gospel values. It has great ties to the Marist tradition, holding a day especially for Marcellin Champagnat. Due to its medium size, the school prides itself on its individual care and family environment.
Sport
St. John's College fields numerous strong teams across a range of sports, having many teams and individuals representing the College regionally and nationally, including, but not limited to: basketball, rugby, soccer, water polo, softball, tennis and orienteering. In 1996, the St. John's basketball squad ascended to the highest point of secondary school basketball achievement, winning the National Championship. Overseas, the College has formed connections and performed exchanges with St. Joseph's College, Samoa, and Terenure College, Dublin, Ireland.
Facility-wise, St. John's has high standard fields available for rugby, soccer and basketball, and fairly recent tennis court/hockey field.
