New York is small village situated in Tyne and Wear in the North East of England and is part of the urban conurbation of North Tyneside. North Tyneside includes the nearby towns of North Shields, Whitley Bay and Wallsend.
The main and nearest city to New York is Newcastle upon Tyne.
New York houses approximately one thousand residents.
The village of New York has three shops, a general store, a school, the Shiremoor Farm, now converted to a very large pub/restaurant, a post office, a petrol station, a pub/restaurant (the Wheatsheaf) which serves Thai food, a working men's club, two take-away food shops (Chinese and local take-away food shop "The Bronx") and some horse stables.
New York does not have its own Tyne and Wear Metro station; however, nearby Shiremoor does. Many bus routes operate through New York as it is located next to Cobalt Business Park and the Silverlink Retail Park. New York also benefits from an extensive bus service to the town of Whitley Bay, even though the town of North Shields is slightly closer to the village.
Currently development is underway to transform the old pub called The Dun Cow into a small block of apartments. Also next door to the apartments development has begun to transform the old car showroom into a dance studio and a coffee shop.
