Petersburg, Boone County, Kentucky

Petersburg, Boone County, Kentucky

Petersburg is an unincorporated community in Boone County, Kentucky, United States. The community was established about 1800. The Bullittsburg Baptist Church was founded outside former hamlets Utzinger and Gainesville/Idewild, east and north of Petersburg in 1794.

The community is unincorporated, therefore the political boundaries are inexact. Petersburg is generally considered to be all the areas west of the Route 20-Route 8 conjunction outside the Idewild Bypass, to the conjunction of Route 20 and Burlington Pike (Route 18). All of the areas along Woolper Road are considered as Petersburg until the roads meeting with Burlington Pike near Commisary Corner.

This area of Boone County is home to the controversial Creation Museum. [cite web|title=HomeTownLocator|url=http://www.hometownlocator.com/DisplayCountyFeatures.cfm?FeatureType=populated%20place&SCFIPS=21111&StartRow=122|accessdate=2006-06-10]

One may often hear that Petersburg, in 1791, was considered as a site for location the new Kentucky State Capitol; however the Petersburg spoke of was a community by the same name in Woodford County that no longer exists today.
