Queen Elizabeth's School is a specialist Sports College situated just outside Wimborne Minster in Dorset. It has very close links with the Minster and was founded by the will of Lady Margaret Beaufort, the mother of Henry VII in 1497. After her death the school became Wimborne Grammar School. Although the Grammar School buildings still remain they have now been converted to flats. The school was established on its current site in 1972 after the merging of Wimborne Grammar School and the County Modern School.

In February 2006 it was announced that QE School would be completely rebuilt under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) One School Pathfinder programme. In June 2006 the funding for the rebuild was increased to £33 million. Students of the school regularly debate why the building process is currently delayed.

Queen Elizabeth's School, Wimborne Minster offers a large amount of courses including Sports, Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities, English, Business, Art, Performing Arts, Languages, Technological studies, and many more.

About QE

Queen Elizabeth's School is a co-educational voluntary controlled Church of England upper school (13-19). At present, there are 1300 students, including more than 350 in the Sixth Form. Queen Elizabeth's maintains a very high reputation in the local community and received an excellent OFSTED report in June 2000, reporting a further improvement on the high standards documented in 1995. Particular mention was made of the good breadth of curriculum and the provision for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Highlighted also was the maturity of students and the strong relationship that exists between them and their staff. One hundred per cent of the teaching observed was considered satisfactory by the inspectors, whilst eighty per cent was cited as good and one third very good and/or excellent. The school's student committee, "Team QE", has a mascot song: "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie as a moral satire aimed at staff.

Mission Statement

For over five hundred years, Queen Elizabeth's School has provided education and opportunity to young people. Supported by our Minster Foundation, we continue to develop the potential of every member of the School community by encouraging, nurturing and stimulating them and by celebrating their achievements. We do this, sustained by our commitment to a shared set of values based on the Christian faith.
