Building History

The building opened as the district's high school in 1928.The school cost a total of 84,000 dollars and currently spends 1,700 dollars a year on repairs. [Hudson Local School District: A Tradition of Excellence, 1801-1985. Pamphlet chronicling history of public schools in Hudson. ] .

Later, additions and renovations were needed to keep up with the school district's growth. The first addition constructed was in 1955. Soon after, the current gym and additional classrooms were added in 1969. Until the opening of Hudson Junior High School at 120 N. Hayden Parkway, grades seven through twelve took classes at this building.

In 1972, a cafeteria and media center were constructed in a two-story addition built over the former faculty parking lot. Also at that time, the original gymnasium, located opposite the auditorium, was divided into classrooms on the first and second floors. In 1992, the new high school opened, and the old building became Hudson Middle School.

Classes

Hudson Middle School offers a wide variety of classes; many of which are advanced in comparison to national requirements. The school has an accelerated math program for students with above-average mathematical skills. The school, along with the entire district, is known for having slightly higher standards on both academic and behavioral levels in juxtaposition to nearby institutions.Fact|date=April 2007 Students are broken up into "Communities." These communities are red, blue, green, and purple. The community a student is assigned to determines what teachers they have for math, science, language arts, and social studies and who they have classes with. The communities are chosen by random draw. There are also music electives such as band, orchestra, and choir. Most students take a "unified arts" class, which only last for part of the year, and involve the whole community. They are different for each grade. 6th Graders take Art, Integrated Literacy, Music, and World Language (see below). 7th graders take Health, Art / Applied Tech., Integrated Literacy, and World Language (see below). Finally, 8th graders take 3 courses, those being Health, Integrated Literacy, and Art. Available foreign languages were German, Spanish, and French, as of 2009, they are no longer offered, but have been replaced with World Language, broken up into two parts. 6th graders take Spanish and French. The 7th graders take German and Latin, and the 8th graders have the option of taking a World Language course.
