Tambov Oblast ( _ru. Тамбо́вская о́бласть, "Tambovskaya oblast") is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Tambov.

Population was estimated at 1,144,800 as of 2005 [ [http://www.gks.ru/bgd/free/b00_25/IssWWW.exe/Stg/d000/i000070r.htm Number of de-jure (resident) population on subjects of Russian Federation ] ] , down from 1,320,763 recorded by the 1989 Census. The 2002 Census number was 1,178,443.
