Knut Vollebæk (born 11 February, 1946, in Oslo) is a Norwegian diplomat and centrist politician (Christian People's Party). He was the Foreign minister of Norway from 1997 to 2000 and Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE in 1999. He was appointed ambassador to the United States in 2001. His diplomatic experience includes assignments to New Delhi, Madrid, and Harare. He was Norwegian ambassador to Costa Rica in 1991-1993, and special envoy for development issues from 1994 until he became Foreign Minister in 1997. He served as a peace negotiator in the former Yugoslavia 1993-1995. Vollebaek was appointed OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities in 2007.
