Belladrum

Belladrum

Belladrum is a small community in the Mahaica-Berbice Region of Guyana, on the Atlantic coast, about 15 kilometres easterly of Mahaicony.

Belladrum has a secondary school and a primary school. A sub-office of the Guyana Elections Commission is located at Belladrum Secondary School.

St. Alban's Church stands in Belladrum.

Historically the church controlled the school so the school is also called St Albans. Belladrum is a rural area close to the sea wall on the northern coast of Guyana. It is below sea level and is rich with lush vegetation, rice fields and wildlife. Due to flooding, it is particularly good for growing rice. Houses are traditionally made of wood and stand on stilt like columns, however recent houses made of concrete and breeze bloc are becoming more evident in the 21st century. Belladrum people are very friendly and have a tendency to walk long distances in search of work. Historically Belladrum men would walk for miles each day to "Dig Shovel" digging canals and waterways in the cane fields or "Cut Cane" at Bath or Blairmont sugar plantations.

Belladrum is also a farm in Kiltarlity (Inverness-shire), near Beauly. Known for the 'Tartan Heart Festival'.
