website_name =The Park High School is one of the three secondary education establishments in the West Norfolk town of
King's Lynn . It opened in 1939 and was separated into two schools, one for boys and one for girls.It used to be called Gaywood Park High School until 1997 when Headteacher David Stevens changed the school name, which he hoped would change the reputation of the school, due to its location and the fact that students do not perform as well at GCSE level in comparison toKing Edward VII School or Springwood. The school has a strong rivalry with King Edward VII School locally known as KES, as the schools are separated by a cycle path. It is situated on Queen Mary Road in the Gaywood area ofKing's Lynn .The school has a very good sixth form centre consisting of over 70 students aged 16-18 which is run by Peter Coote who also teaches Geography to the lower school.
Twenty first century
In 2006, Deputy Headteacher Dr. Robert Rogers took over as Headteacher from David Stevens who had to leave due to a long-term illness. During this period of take-over The Park High School was given a notice to improve by Ofsted. In December '06/January '07 it was learnt that the school could become a brand new academy school under the government's scheme to help with under performing schools.The possibility of making Park High follow in the footsteps of North Norfolk school Heartsease High, which is already on the path to becoming an academy, will be discussed by Norfolk County Council's children's services review panel in January 2007.The idea of academy schools is to allow flexibility in management, governance, teaching and curriculum with input from outside sponsors.
