Charlie Pickering (born 29 August 1977) he grew up in Melbourne, Australia and attended an Independent Anglican Boys' School; Brighton Grammar. He was a lawyer but quit to become a comedian, who has performed stand-up comedy since 2000, and appeared in multiple festivals, both in Australia and around the world.

Currently he is the co-host of The Project with Dave Hughes and Carrie Bickmore and is also the Gen X team captain on Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation, representing Generation X, with both airing on Network Ten. He was briefly seen as the Australian correspondent on the New Zealand version of The 7PM Project, @Seven.

Career

In 2002, Pickering made his first appearance in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) with long time collaborator Michael Chamberlin in Boiling Point, a show which earned them the Piece of Wood Award (an award given by contemporary comedians). In 2003, Pickering and Chamberlin teamed up again in Boiling Point 2, the pair also appearing the same year with fellow comedian Terri Psiakis in Equal Third. In 2004, he debuted his first full length festival show Revolver which found critical success. In 2005, Pickering launched Betterman at the MICF, a show he went on to tour in New Zealand where he won Best International Act – New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards, and also at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where he was nominated for the prestigious Perrier Award – Best Newcomer. In 2006 Charlie presented his show Auto at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, receiving a nomination for the Barry Award, the top award presented at the MICF.

Between 2000 and 2005 he, along with Michael Chamberlin, was instrumental in helping shape the Melbourne live comedy circuit, running several seasons of one of the successful comedy room Stagetime.

Blog

Pickering wrote a blog leading up to the 2010 Federal Election, in which he stated that he had been married. He was seen with a wedding ring in 2009 but by 2010 was no longer wearing one.

Radio

Pickering has also worked widely in Australian television and radio. He is known nationally and locally from the time he spent on youth radio station Triple J between 2001 and 2003.

Book

Pickering published his first book, Impractical Jokes, in 2010.

Television

His television appearances include Rove Live (Network Ten), The Glass House (ABC-TV), Today, (Nine Network), Stand Up![1] (ABC-TV), and an appearance on the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala (Network Ten).

Pickering replaced James Kerley as host of Channel V's travelling game show, Cash Cab and co-host on Foxtel's The Mansion with Michael Chamberlin.[2]

In 2009, Pickering appears as a team captain on Channel 10's quiz show Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation, representing Generation X. I

In July 2009, he became a co-host on Network Ten's new infotainment program, The 7PM Project with Carrie Bickmore and Dave Hughes.[3]
