- Dawn (novel)
'Dawn' is a
book byElie Wiesel published in 1961. "Dawn" is sometimes considered to be asequel to "Night", Wiesel's account of his experiences duringthe Holocaust . However, unlike "Night", "Dawn" is a work offiction . It tells the story of Elisha, aHolocaust survivor . After the war, Elisha moves to theBritish Mandate of Palestine and joins aterrorist group determined to oust the British from the area. One night, Elisha is told that he must execute a British officer at dawn, and thenovel covers his struggle with his innerdemons .The main character's name in "Dawn", Elisha, is presumed to derive from the author's own name of Eliezer, possibly for reasons such as "predicting" what his life could have been like if he had chosen a different path after the Holocaust, of which he was also a survivor.
