Light Night Strike Force

Light Night Strike Force

The Light Night Strike Force (LNSF) was a World War II Royal Air Force unit. It was created in June 1943 under the command of Air Commodore Don Bennett. LNSF Mosquito bombers performed night attacks on German targets. The aircraft would drop Window, mark targets with flares and bomb them in the hopes of distracting enemy defences and drawing night fighters away from the main bombing forces which would be striking targets somewhere else in German territory. The LNSF was at first comprised of No. 105 Squadron RAF and No. 139 Squadron RAF, which had until then been involved in daytime attacks on Germany, along with No. 109 Pathfinder Squadron. Activities wound down with the end of the war in Europe, in 1945.
