Topoteretes

A "Topoteretes" ( _gr. Τοποτηρητῆς) was a Byzantine title, meaning deputy commander (literally "place-warden").

It was given to Philaretus Brachamius, the Armenian general, and to the Lombard Arduin as ruler over Melfi.
