The IFA Interim Intermediate League, or IFA Interim League, is the third tier of football in Northern Ireland. It is a temporary league for one season only (2008-09), consisting of those former members of the IFA Intermediate League (dissolved in 2008) who did not meet the criteria for the new IFA Championship. Members of the Interim League have one year to make improvements that will gain them entry to the Championship for 2009-10.

History

The IFA Interim League, as the third tier of football in Northern Ireland (and the second tier of intermediate football is the successor to the IFA Intermediate League Second Division, which was founded in 2004, and which itself succeeded the Irish Football League Second Division. Prior to reorganisation 2003 (when the Irish Premier League was formed, there were two senior divisions (Irish Football League Premier Division and First Division) and the Irish League Second Division was the one national intermediate division (the equivalent today of the IFA Championship.
