The school is a part of M.S.A.D. 22, and students from Hampden, Newburgh, and Winterport attend for grades 9-12. It has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
The school mascot is the Bronco.
History
Hampden Academy was founded in
1803 as a private school and before that was a Theological Seminary. Currently, it serves as a public school that educates students from Hampden, Winterport, and Newburgh. Founded in 1803, the original Hampden Academy building is on the National Register of Historic Places.Also noteworthy, the front lawn of the academy was the site of the Battle of Hampden during the War of 1812.
