Kishori Amonkar ( _mr. िकशोरी आमोणकर) (born April 10, 1931 in Mumbai) is a noted Indian classical vocalist. She sings khyal in the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana style.

Life and career

Kishori Amonkar was born to Madhavdas Bhatiya and Mogubai Kurdikar, a renowned classical vocalist, who gave Kishori her early music lessons. Kishori quickly imbibed the nuances of the difficult Jaipur-Atrauli gharana of music. She has developed her own style which emphasizes the emotional content of musical notes while maintaining the rigor of the Jaipur "gaayaki" (singing style).

Disciples

Arun Dravid, Raghunandan Panshikar, Padma Talwalkar, Manik Bhide, Meera Panshikar, Nandini Bedekar, Vidya Bhagwat, Maya Upadhyaya, granddaughter Tejashree Amonkar, and violinist Milind Raikar are some of Kishori Amonkar's disciples.
