Pressure pad

Pressure pad

A pressure pad may be a trigger (pad) activated by weight often used as part of a security system. Supermarkets and big-box retailers often install pressure pads on their entrance and exit doors so that they open automatically when a customer approaches.

Some video games (such as the "Tomb Raider" series) use pressure pads (or pressure-sensitive floors) as parts of traps and other damage-causing hazards.

Pressure pads are also used in electronic devices as buttons such as on a membrane keyboard.
