Marianne Jelved

Marianne Bruus Jelved née Hirsbro (born 5 September 1943) is a Danish politician, and is educated as a teacher and in the theory of education. She worked as an undergrade teacher for 22 years, and has taught teaching for about 10 years.

She was elected to the Parliament of Denmark in 1987 for the Social Liberal Party (Det Radikale Venstre), and was Minister of Economic Affairs from January 1993 to November 2001.

She was the parliamentary group leader of the Social Liberal Party until 15 June 2007, when she resigned and was replaced by Margrethe Vestager, after a total of 13 years on the post (from 1988-1993 and again from 2001-2007).[1] Since the break-out of the party of Naser Khader to form the party New Alliance (Ny Alliance), rumors to that effect had been circulating.[2]

On 15 August 2007, several Danish newspapers reported that strong forces within the Social Liberal Party were working to get Marianne Jelved to run for the next municipal council elections in Copenhagen in 2009.[3]
