"So Excited" is a hip hop–dance-pop–electro song by American singer Janet Jackson, featuring rapper Khia.

(2006), it peaked at number ninety on the "Billboard" Hot 100, but managed to become Jackson's seventeenth number-one dance hit.

The song is a dance track which samples Herbie Hancock's 1983 "Rockit". [ [http://www.janet-xone.com Janet Jackson | .janet|xone] ] This is the second time Jackson has sampled a song by Hancock, with the first time being 2004's "All Nite (Don't Stop)", which samples his 1975 song "Hang up Your Hang Ups". The song premiered on August 19 2006 on Jermaine Dupri's "So So Def Radio" on Atlanta radio station WVEE-FM. The Radio Edit silences "inside of" in the line "my body is in overdrive dying to have you inside of me" and "thumpin'" in the line "I'ma keep your body thumpin'".

The song was made available for digital download as a free with "20 Y.O." pre-orders on iTunes on August 29 2006. It debuted on BET's "106 & Park" on the album's release date, September 26 2006.

Chart performance

"So Excited" debuted on the "Billboard" Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at number seventy-five on September 30 2006, eventually peaking at number thirty-four. It peaked at number ninety on the "Billboard" Hot 100, which was considered a disappointment. After two singles that did not chart well, Virgin released no other singles commercially from the album.

On the Hot Dance Club Play chart, "So Excited" became Jackson's twenty-second consecutive top ten single and her seventh number-one hit.

Controversy

When Khia's verse was not shown in the music video and she was no longer receiving a record contract with Jermaine Dupri. She had stated in a magazine that she made "So Excited" and it was not her fault that it flopped and that "40 isn't the new 20 after all". Her vocals on the track are demolished and now replaced with a man yelling her lines over the track.

Music video

The music video for "So Excited" was filmed in Los Angeles on August 23 and 24. In the video, Jackson and her crew dance in a dim hotel. Throughout the dance routine, Jackson and her female dancers morph, dancing clothed and naked, covering their breasts. The camera often acts as an X-ray, seeing through doorways and bodies, also revealing that the hotel room Jackson is in is actually beside the one Jermaine Dupri is in. Jackson is seen in a hotel room blindfolding a guy, making out in a public restroom, and being fed strawberries in a car. Khia is seen rapping on a hotel television. Dupri is featured shaving in a bathroom while rapping, with a mysterious woman showering in the background.

In the music video, Khia's guest appearance was limited to just a spoken part in the chorus. During the "Access Granted" show, her rap verse was shown being filmed. Video director Joseph Kahn stated during "Access Granted" that this is the first video he has ever filmed using digital video cameras only. Multiple versions of the video were made. The original version (containing Khia's rap, and is brighter), a revised version (a brighter version with different scenes, also known as the "VH1 Version" among fans), and the premiere version (a darker version, previewed on "Access Granted", also known as the "BET Version" among fans). Until October 10, 2006, MTV refused to play "So Excited". The video finally aired during "MTV Video Wake-up", but was not eligible for vote on "TRL".
