Political career

Boyle was elected Mayor of Omaha in 1981 and re-elected in 1985. After accusations of abuse of power and insulting treatment of civic leaders and government employees, Boyle was recalled in 1987.[1] In October 1986, Mayor Boyle fired Police Chief Robert Wadman for insubordination. Chief Wadman had refused to sign disciplinary papers against officers involved in the arrest of Mayor Boyle's brother-in-law, John E. Howell, on drunken driving charges in 1985. Boyle also complained when the police issued traffic citations for his 19-year-old son and again when his twin 17-year-old sons were arrested for allegedly soliciting prostitution. The twins' cases went into confidential juvenile court proceedings.[2]
