Rhythm & Vines

Rhythm & Vines

Rhythm and Vines is a New Years Eve music festival held in "Waiohika Estate" vineyard, ten minutes from Gisborne city.

History

Rhythm & Vines was founded by Hamish Pinkham, Tom Gibson and Andrew Witters, who originally came up with the concept with a vision of a gathering of their university friends to celebrate the New Year in a safe and secure location where they would be entertained by some New Zealand musicians. In more recent years, the gathering extended into a 24-hour music festival, featuring not only New Zealand musicians but also international artists. However, the venue, Waiohika Estate (Andrew Witters' family house), and the date, 31 December, have remained the same.

In 2008, Rhythm and Vines was expanded to become not only a 3 day event, but also arguably New Zealand's favourite and best New Years eve party. The change in format allowed organisers to contract bands that were not previously available, and were a large factor in making the 2008 2009 Rhythm and Vines' strongest yet. Accommodation for Rhythm and Vines is almost completely provided by BW Campgrounds, a 7 week party that features bands such as Kora, State of Mind, and the Stafford Brothers.
