As of the 2007-08 school year, the district's two schools had an enrollment of 1,071 students and 63.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 17.0.[1]
The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "DE", the fifth highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[3]
Students in grades 9 - 12 attend the Mainland Regional High School, which serves students from Linwood, Northfield and Somers Point.[4] The high school is located in Linwood.

Awards and recognition
Karen Weeks, 7th grade math teacher at Northfield Community School, was named the 2009/2010 Atlantic County Teacher of the Year.
On March 29, 2009, Northfield Community School was named one of eight New Jersey Schools of Character.
On June 10, 2008, Northfield Community School was named the Healthiest School in Atlantic County in AtlantiCare's Healthy Schools contest, receiving a $5,000 grant.
