Adil Shah

Adil Shah

Adil Shah Afshar or Ali Qoli (Modern Persian: عادل شاه افشار) was Shah of Persia from 1747 until 1748. Subsequent to the assassination of Nadir in Fathabad (Khabushan), his nephew declared himself Adil Shah ("righteous king"), and shah of Persia. He slew Reza Gholi Mirza and Emam Gholi Mirza, the children and heirs to the throne of Nadir, as well as all his other descendants, save Shahrokh who was only 14 at the time.

As a result of numerous revolts by tribal chiefs aspiring to control of the country, Mohammad Hossein Khan, the head of the Qajar tribe was murdered by the order of Adil Shah, and a certain 5 year old son of his, named Mohammad was castrated. He later became an enormous part of Iranian history as the founder of Qajar dynasty, Agha Mohammad Khan.

Invasion of Ahmad Shah Durrani and Loss of Afghanistan

During Adil Shah's reign Nadir's generals exploiting their military influence collected their forces and attempted to rise to power. The province of Afghanistan was taken by Ahmad Shah Durrani, an Afghan General.

Death

Adil shah's reign came to an end in September 29 of 1748 having been in power for less than a year. As a result of a "coup d'état" he was deposed by his own brother Ebrahim. Ebrahim blinded him, slew him, and succeeded him as Shah.
