Joe Faragalli

Joe Faragalli (April 18 1929 in Philadelphia – April 10 2006) was a CFL coach.

Faragalli played Guard at Villanova University from 1950-1953, and was the team captain all four years. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 12th round (138 overall pick) of the 1954 NFL Draft. He served four years in Germany with the United States Army and went on to coach college football in the United States. In 1967, he joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as an offensive coach. In 1981, he became head coach for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was awarded the Annis Stukus Trophy as Coach of the Year in that year. In 1987, he led the Edmonton Eskimos to a Grey Cup win; the Eskimos played in the 1990 Grey Cup game under Faragalli but lost to Winnipeg. He also coached the Montreal Alouettes and Ottawa Rough Riders. During the 1980s, he worked as an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Oilers and Buffalo Bills. His son Mike also coached in the CFL.

He died in Narragansett, Rhode Island on April 10, 2006 of heart failure only one week before his 76th birthday and approximately one month before his 50th anniversary.
