nihongo|"Super Robot Wars MX"|スーパーロボット大戦MX|Sūpā Robotto Taisen Emu Ekkusu is a video game for the Sony PlayStation 2. It is part of the Super Robot Wars series by Banpresto, a division of Bandai, and was released on May 27, 2004. It was later ported to the Sony PlayStation Portable on December 19, 2005, with minor gameplay tweaks, titled Super Robot Wars MX Portable.

Overview

Because of the series included in MX, it is often theorized that the game was intended to be a direct sequel to "Super Robot Wars Impact", since it includes several of the same series from that game, most notably Machine Robo. MX is one of the few games in the franchise where the player does not have a choice of which Banpresto Original protagonist they can play. In this game, both main original characters, Hugo Medio and Aqua Centolm, share the same machine, though there is still a choice of which two mechs to use: the super robot "Garmraid" or the real robot "Cerberus".

Another notable change in MX is that the Gundam Series did not take any of the major events through the game. In MX, other than G Gundam which loosely linked their endings (which MX timeline set after the endings, according to the events in IMPACT) and plots to the original storylines, the other Gundam productions almost solely exist in purpose to support other non-Gundam titles in the storyline. It departs from other SRW productions that conflicts between various factions of Gundam must be taken part as one of the main storylines. The next series which Gundam did not take a main role will be the W Timeline, which they follows the manga (Astray Series) storyline of Gundam SEED but not animation one, and the storyline are limited to a few stages in latter part, where the Bloody Valentine happened when the first half of story ended.

Similarities to Impact

Despite not being a genuine sequel to the earlier SRW Impact, MX bears a great number of similarities to the earlier title. Most noticably, both games feature the Free Route system in which, instead of following a completely linear progression, the player is able to choose what order to play certain scenarios in, with the order potentially affecting the storyline or giving the opportunity to receive hidden units or characters. Additionally, MX and Impact use the same in-game font, and much of MX's soundtrack is remixed or rearranged from Impact's.Some sprites and cut-ins from Impact were reused in MX; the most noticable is arguably God Gundam's sprite and the God Finger cut-in.
