Portugal has participated 42 times at the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result was 6th in 1996. Portugal came in last in 1964, 1974 and 1997. From 2004 to 2007, the country didn't qualify for the ESC final due to the introduction of the Semi-Final, even if they were only 3 points away from it in 2007. However, they did qualify in 2008. Portugal is the country that has participated longest without a victory.

The contest is broadcast in Portugal by Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP).
