The Tidewater region of Virginia is a term used to refer to the eastern portion of the Commonwealth of
Virginia. The term "Tidewater" may be correctly applied to all portions of Virginia where the water level is affected by the tides. In general, this is most of the land east of I-95, which runs between major cities along the fall line, and north of U.S. 460. It includes Hampton Roads, the rest of the Virginia Peninsula, the Middle Peninsula, the Northern Neck, and the Eastern Shore.
Some Important cities in the tidewater region are Richmond and Alexandria. Richmond is also the capital of Virginia.
