Karl Theobald (born 5 August 1969) is an English comedian and actor, best known as Dr. Martin Dear in Green Wing and for his physical comedy style.

He is originally from Lowestoft where he studied at The Denes High School around 1985 and went to dance school at an early age. He graduated from the Drama Centre in 2000, to work with Theatre de Complicite.

As a stand-up comedian he was reviewed negatively by critics due to his comedic style: there is a review from 2001 on Chortle

Theobald is the one-time comedy partner of Russell Brand: they formed a double act during the nineties, called Theobald and Brand on Ice. This is mentioned by Brand on his BBC radio show and in his autobigraphy, My Booky Wook.

Theobald is most famous as the down-trodden Martin Dear in the Channel 4 sitcom "Green Wing". He has also written comedy for the televsion programmes "The Sketch Show" and "Smack the Pony". He is currently appearing in "Donkey's Years" in the West End. Theobald also appears in the radio sitcom "The Exterminating Angels".

In 2008 Theobald joined the anomaly team in the ITV science fiction series "Primeval" as Oliver Leek. On 12th January 2008, Karl made an appearance on a "999" Special of The Weakest Link.
