Heart of Scotland services

Heart Of Scotland services, commonly referred to as Harthill services, is a motorway service station on the M8 motorway between junctions 4 & 5, at Harthill, in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is owned by Transport Scotland and is leased to BP. It used to be leased to RoadChef.

When opened in 1978 it was Scotland's first service station [http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/defaultpage1221cde0.aspx?pageID=107&rlID=640] and features the United Kingdom's only long distance bus stop in a service station.Fact|date=February 2007.

The original 1978 pedestrian bridge across the motorway is to be replaced by a modern helical truss structure. The sections of the new bridge are currently being fabricated and transported to site where they will by assembled and lifted into place in one piece. The lift is scheduled for October 2008 in advance of the bridge being open in early 2009ref|http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/projects/M8-harthill-footbridge-replacement/construction.
