Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) is a UK charity that works to alleviate poverty and social exclusion.

The stated aims of the CPAG are:[1]

  • Raise awareness of the causes, extent, nature and impact of poverty, and strategies for its eradication and prevention;
  • Bring about positive policy changes for families with children in poverty;
  • Enable those eligible for income maintenance to have access to their full entitlement.

CPAG programs include:

  • Research and publish the latest facts and figures of family and child poverty in the UK[2]
  • Lobby the UK government, lead and support campaigns for effective policies to prevent, alleviate and abolish child and family poverty[3]
  • Provide up to date information and reliable advice on the UK social security and tax credits systems[4]
  • Conduct training courses in Welfare Rights, for both new and experienced advisers, to help them keep up to date with developments in social security and tax credits[5]
  • Undertake test-cases to extend the interpretation of law in favour of claimants in social security, tax credits and related law using, where appropriate the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights.[6]
