The 2006 U.S. Senate election for the state of Utah was held on November 7, 2006. Incumbent Senator Orrin Hatch won re-election to a sixth term.

In July 2005, Utah house majority whip Steve Urquhart announced that he would challenge Hatch for the Republican nomination. In September, Urquhart dropped out of the race because of a low level of funding and to spend more time working at his business. [http://www.utahpolitics.org/archives/cat_campaigns.shtml] As a result, Hatch faced only three unknown challengers in the Republican primary on June 27, 2006. [http://www.politics1.com/ut.htm] .

Opposing Hatch in the general election were Democrat Pete Ashdown, an internet company executive, and several minor party candidates.

The filing deadline for major party candidates was March 17, 2006.
