Swansea Leisure Centre is a
leisure centrelocated in the city centre of Swansea, Wales, UK. Swansea Leisure Centre re-opened to the public on 1 March 2008after a £32 million makeover and rebranded as the 'LC'. The leisure centre's exterior has been revitalised by replacing the old concrete panels with [http://www.swansea.gov.uk/media/images/q/9/Leisure_Centre.jpgclear glass, translucent glazing and timber panelling] .
The new leisure centre contains an
indoor waterparkconsisting of a network of pools, water rides, and slides, including the Master Blaster and the Surf Rider, which is an indoor surfingride.
A lazy river allows children to body surf and there is an interactive pool with play equipment and a toddler teaching facility in the Lagoon Pool.
A new multi-purpose sports and
exhibition hallfor sports, conferences, exhibitions and concerts is included in the new design. The gymfacilities have been upgraded to include a fitness arena, a health spaand treatment centre and two aerobic studios.
There is a new poolside café, four-storey Playzone, party and function rooms and a nine-metre
The centre was officially opened by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on
7 March 2008.
The royal visit will be a case of history repeating itself as it will be the second time The Queen has officially opened the building, the first time being more than 30 years ago when it was known as Swansea Leisure Centre.
The old leisure centre, at the same site, was opened in 1977 and hosted a range of leisure activities, including a
swimming poolwith wave generator and hydro-slide, bowling greens, and number of mixed-use halls. In its heyday, it was one of the top 10 visitor attractions in the UK, in the same league as Madame Tussaud's.
