Knockmore railway station

Knockmore railway station

Knockmore railway station served the Lisburn suburb of Knockmore in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, but is currently closed to passengers.

The station is located near Knockmore Junction, where the Belfast - Lisburn - Dublin line and Belfast - Lisburn - Derry line diverge. The station was unusual because the two platforms were served by two different routes.

One platform was served by southbound trains only on the Belfast - Lisburn - Portadown route, while the other platform was served by trains (in both directions) on the Belfast - Lisburn - Antrim - Derry line. Trains travelling from Portadown to Belfast could not serve Knockmore.

When the Antrim - Lisburn line closed (a faster route between Antrim and Belfast was reopened), this meant that the station could be served by southbound trains only between Belfast and Portadown. The station was not well used and this situation led to its eventual closure on 25 March 2005. The single platform still remains.

There are calls for a new West Lisburn station which would be near the current disused station.
