UC Berkeley is one of the most selective universities in the United States, and is the most selective among campuses in the University of California system. For its fall 2008 term, Berkeley admitted 10,388 freshman from an applicant pool of 48,400 (21%), marking the most selective admissions cycle in the university's history. The average admitted freshman applied with an SAT I score of 2034 (out of 2400) and a GPA of 3.87 (on a 4.0 scale).

For its fall 2007 term, Berkeley admitted 10,200 freshmen from an applicant pool of 44,120 (23%) and also admitted 3,252 transfers from an applicant pool of 11,043 (29%). [ [http://www.ucop.edu/news/studstaff.html University of California Office of the President ] ]
