S. Anselm's Preparatory School

S. Anselm's Preparatory School

S. Anselm's Preparatory School is a preparatory school in Bakewell, Derbyshire, founded in 1888.

S. Anselm's sits in 18 acres of the beautiful Peak National Park, overlooking the market town of Bakewell. S.Anselm's School was founded by Mr William Storrs Fox in 1888 on its present site above the market town of Bakewell.

Initially the school had only a handful of boys as pupils but by the 1920s S. Anselm's was enjoying halcyon days.

Girls joined the school for the first time in 1977. In 1988 S. Anselm's celebrated its centenary.

Today the Prep and Pre-Prep departments at S. Anselm's have a total of 250 pupils. All former pupils become Old Anselmians, an active group of ex-pupils who are united in their shared experience of life at S. Anselm's.

We strive to create children who are good citizens, pupils who are kind and respectful and who are known for their friendliness and self-confidence. We firmly believe the formative years are the most important and we work hard to bring out the best in each and every child in our care.

We have moved with the times but we retain the ethos which applied when the school was first founded. S. Anselm's children are happy and fulfilled and our aim remains the same, to produce self-motivated children with enquiring minds but we never lose sight of the fact that competition must be tempered by consideration for others.
